Bridge Mania is a thrilling civil engineering challenge that puts your creativity, structural understanding, and practical skills to the test! Participants are required to design and construct a Truss-type bridge model using popsicle sticks (candy sticks), keeping in mind strict dimensional and design constraints.
The event aims to simulate real-world engineering problems by challenging teams to build a lightweight yet strong bridge that can withstand significant loads. The bridge will be tested for its load-bearing capacity, efficiency, and compliance with design rules.
This is not just about building a strong bridge—it’s about building a smart bridge that balances strength, weight, and aesthetics. Show off your teamwork, technical expertise, and innovation in this ultimate bridge-building contest!
Rules & Regulations:
(1) Each team should have a maximum of 4 members.
(2) Dimensions of the bridge: Length = 65 ± 5 cm, Breadth = 12 ± 2 cm, Height = 12 ± 2 cm.
(3) A clear section of 12 ± 2 cm × 12 ± 2 cm must be able to pass through the deck along its entire length (no hindrance or cross bracing allowed).
(4) The bridge must be of Truss type design.
(5) The thickness of any member must not exceed 4 overlapping popsicle sticks (candy sticks).
(6) The bridge must be built using only popsicle sticks (candy sticks).
(7) A bridge deck is mandatory.
(8) Valid receipt and college ID card are compulsory at the time of the event.
(9) If caught cheating, the participant(s) will be immediately disqualified.
(10) Use of any kind of electronic devices will lead to disqualification.
(11) In case of any conflict, the decision of the event coordinator will be final.
Evaluation Criteria:
(1) Each bridge will be tested before; the self-weight will be used to calculate structural efficiency.
(2) Initial load of 3 kg will be applied.
(3) If the bridge fails to sustain the minimum 3 kg load, it will be disqualified.
(4) Loading will be applied at the centre point of the bridge deck.
(5) Measurement of load will stop when the peak load is reached.
